About the product:
1. These units are standard solar compatible; therefore solar panels can be connected at any time.
2. The cylinders are corrosion and electrolysis free. No costly sacrificial anode is therefore required thus reducing
maintenance costs.
3. It's suitable for indoor or outdoor installation as the unit is totally corrosion resistant, UV resistant and the electrical box is
fully waterproof.
4. Outer casing can be produced to any colour on request.
5. The casing is streamlined in design, which ensures easy access through trap doors.
6. The unit weights half the weight of a conventional hot water cylinder with all fittings positioned on one side saving on
installation costs.
7. The combinations of composites and polyurethane ensure the best insulation properties available, minimizing heat loss and
saving electricity.
8. The unique baffle allows maximum hot water withdrawal due to limited mixing of the inlet cold water.
9. Low positioning of element allows maximum volume of hot water.
10. XSTREAMTM offers a five year warranty on the tank.
11. Fitted with hard water element, thermostat, draincock and temperature and pressure safety (t&p) valve.
Mainstream™ with vacuum tubes
Description:
Evacuated tubes in this case are the absorbers of the Mainstream tank which means that these tubes absorb the heat from the sun and heat the water inside the tank.
The evacuated tube consists of:
- Two glass tubes made from a very strong borosilicate glass;
- The inner tube is coated with a special selective coating that has superb radiation and minimal solar reflection properties;
- The outer glass tube is completely transparent in order to allow light rays to pass to the inner tube;
- The top of the two tubes are fused together and all the air in between the two layers of glass tubes are expelled under very
high temperatures, leaving a vacuum - ideal for heat transfer;
- The inner glass tube contains a heat pipe filled with a liquid with a very low boiling point (around 25°C);
- Once the liquid is heated (by the sun) above 25°C the liquid vaporizes and rises to the top where the heat-pipe now absorbs
the heat. The liquid cools off and the vapour condenses to form a liquid which travels to the bottom of the heat pipe;
- This process is repeated and water is heated inside the tank as it flows through the manifold that is connected to the
Mainstream™ tank.
These tubes are freeze-protected and the installation is therefore suitable for installation in all areas, including freezing conditions.
Mainstream™ with solar panel
- The panel is connected to the XstreamTM tank and filled with water which is heated by the sun.
- Thermosyphoning takes place, whereby the hottest water is circulated up and stored in the XstreamTM storage tank, if
positioned above the panel.
- The flat plate solar collector is a very simple device: It is an insulated rectangular box, which contains a metal absorber plate
(copper or aluminium) that has been painted black, with headers made of 22mm copper pipe at each end.
- These are connected with small risers made from either 10mm or 15mm copper pipe. Generally the more headers present,
the more effective and costly the model.
- The entire box is covered with hail resistant tempered glass and is installed north facing in South Africa.
- Supply water flows from the hot water storage tank to the header, then into the risers where it is heated by the sun's energy
and returned back to the storage tank for domestic consumption.
- The hot water tank is fitted with an electric element that turns on only if the water temperature cannot be maintained by the
solar water heater.
